From £3,000 to £25,000 a month
How we rebuilt a UK training company's search presence and grew monthly revenue roughly eightfold. The biggest page on the site is not a course page, and that turned out to be the point.

Where they were in November 2024
Around £3,000 a month. The business was solid: experienced trainers, real accreditations, courses running nationwide. The website was the problem.
-
Location pages that were not really location pages They existed, but the content was close to identical across them. Google had no reason to treat the Glasgow page as more relevant to Glasgow than any other page.
-
Copy that sold features, not outcomes Duration, syllabus, certificate. Nothing about what the buyer actually gets, which is the ability to test appliances in-house instead of paying a contractor every year.
-
No authority signals No press coverage, no citations. In a compliance niche that matters more than it does almost anywhere else.
-
Weak calls to action The traffic that did arrive had no clear next step.
What we actually did
Seven pieces of work, in this order. The order mattered more than any single piece of it.
-
01
Built a full topical map before writing anything
We mapped the whole subject before touching a page. One central entity, PAT testing. One central search intent, getting trained and certified. A core section covering the commercial pages, and an outer section covering everything people search on the way to buying.
Every outer page links into the course pages. That structure is why the site now ranks for the informational questions and still converts. Thirty-five nodes, split between commercial pages and supporting content.
-
02
Rebuilt every location page from scratch
Each page was redesigned and rewritten so it was genuinely about that location, rather than a template with the city name swapped in.
-
03
Rewrote the site copy around outcomes
We moved the messaging away from listing course features and towards the argument that actually closes: train your own staff once, and you stop paying outside contractors to test your equipment every year.
-
04
Rebuilt the calls to action
Every page got a clear next step, placed where people were ready to take it.
-
05
Ran a digital PR campaign
Before chasing rankings we built authority, including press coverage. In a safety and compliance niche, Google wants proof the business is real before it will rank the pages.
-
06
Rebuilt the site to look like a serious business
Buyers here are handing over their safety obligations, and a dated website undercuts every trust signal built elsewhere. The redesign was part of the positioning work, not a cosmetic project.
-
07
Expanded into the outer section
Once the commercial pages were right, we built out the wider subject: regulations, frequency, procedure, appliance classes, careers, record keeping. That content now carries most of the site's impressions and feeds the course pages.
The results

Search performance, last three months
The site now ranks across 102 pages. The top performers by clicks:

|---|---|---|
| Can I do my own PAT testing? | 586 | 54,907 |

| How to become a PAT tester | 157 | 11,824 |
| Legal requirements for PAT testing UK | 134 | 34,118 |
| Visual inspection in PAT testing | 82 | 14,392 |
Top queries include "pat testing course" (160 clicks from 8,914 impressions), "pat testing" (133 from 35,514), "pat testing course near me", "pat testing training" and "can you pat test your own equipment". The location pages are working too: Preston, Bristol, Norwich, Exeter, Portsmouth, Birmingham, Liverpool, Brighton, Southampton, Barnsley, Swindon, Edinburgh, Peterborough, Milton Keynes, North London and Newcastle are all pulling clicks.
Orders that trace back to search
The order feed shows where the money actually comes from. Recent examples:
| Order value | Source |
|---|---|
| £234.00 | Organic: Google |
| £234.00 | Organic: Google |
| £234.00 | Organic: Google |
| £234.00 | Referral: ChatGPT |
| £174.00 to £1,719.60 | Partner referrals built during the campaign |
One order arrived through a ChatGPT referral, which is the clearest evidence we have that the same work earning rankings is earning citations in AI answers.
Brand recognition in AI search
Ask Google's AI who PAT Training Now is, and it returns a full, accurate description: what they sell, who accredits them, where they deliver, and how long they have been operating. It cites the site's own pages and blog posts by name.
That is what topical authority looks like when it lands, and it is not theoretical. One of the orders above came in through a ChatGPT referral rather than a search result.
What Ian said
Ian Cox runs PAT Training Now. He recorded this himself, unscripted.
Video testimonial from Ian Cox, PAT Training Now.
"I can guarantee you'll definitely enjoy working with Sharia. I would say he is a smart worker, always looking for opportunities where he can make your business shine. His gap-finding ability through a comprehensive audit, and targeting those low-hanging fruit, helped our business scale its revenue within a few quarters.
His data visualisation skill, disciplined workflow and clear data reports made every decision simple for us.
I would recommend Sharia to any company ready to scale their business, not only to rankings but also to grow revenue."
What surprised us
Two things this project taught us that we now apply everywhere.
-
Authority came before rankings, not after
We expected the rewritten location pages to do the heavy lifting on their own. They did not move much until the PR campaign gave the site something to stand on. In a niche where people are buying compliance, Google seems to want proof the business is real before it will rank the pages, however good the content is.
-
The biggest page is not a course page
It is an article answering whether you can do your own PAT testing. The outer section carries the visibility, the core section takes the money. That relationship is now how we plan every map.
A note on the data
A note on the data. The site was rebuilt in July 2026 after a payment gateway issue on the client's side, which reset the analytics history. The figures above start from July 2026.
The £3,000 a month starting figure comes from the WooCommerce dashboard as it was at handover in November 2024. We are happy to screen share the live accounts and walk through any of this in detail.
