Cookie Policy

Every cookie this site sets, what it does, how long it lasts, and how to turn it off. Named individually rather than described in categories.

Effective 1 October 2026
No advertising cookies
Analytics off until you accept

The short version

This site sets a small number of cookies. Two are necessary and cannot be turned off ... they remember your cookie choice and stop form spam. The rest are analytics, from Google Analytics and Microsoft Clarity, and they do not load at all until you accept them. There are no advertising cookies, no retargeting pixels and no tracking across other websites. Decline everything optional and the site works exactly the same.

Section 04 names every cookie individually, with its purpose and lifespan.

01  What cookies are

A plain explanation

A cookie is a small text file a website asks your browser to store. When you come back, the browser hands it over again, which is how a site can remember something about your previous visit.

They are not programs, they cannot run code, and they cannot read files on your computer. What they can do is create continuity across visits, which is useful for remembering a preference and also the mechanism behind most online tracking.

Two distinctions worth knowing

  • First-party vs third-party. First-party cookies are set by the site you are on. Third-party cookies are set by another company whose code the site has embedded. Analytics tools set third-party cookies.
  • Session vs persistent. Session cookies vanish when you close the browser. Persistent cookies stay for a defined period, which is listed for each one in Section 04.

This policy also covers similar technologies ... local storage, pixels and device identifiers ... which do the same job by different means. We use the word "cookies" throughout for readability.

02  Why we use them

What we get out of it

We publish a large library of guides. Cookies tell us which ones people actually read to the end, which ones lose people halfway, and which pages are confusing enough that visitors leave without finding what they came for.

That is the entire purpose. We are not building a profile of you, we are not selling audience data, and we are not following you to other sites to show you an advert.

What happens if you decline

Nothing changes for you. Every guide, resource and page works identically. We lose some information about how the site performs, which we accept as the cost of not tracking people who would rather not be tracked.

03  The categories we use

Two categories, not five

Strictly necessary

Keep the site functioning and secure. They remember your cookie choice and block automated form spam. These are exempt from consent requirements under UK and EU law because the site cannot operate without them.

Analytics

Google Analytics and Microsoft Clarity. They tell us which content works and where pages fail readers. Off by default and only loaded after you accept.

Many cookie policies list five or six categories ... functional, performance, targeting, social media, advertising. We list two because we only use two. Listing categories you do not populate makes a policy look thorough while telling the reader less.

Names and durations can shift

Google and Microsoft occasionally rename cookies or change how long they persist. We review this list quarterly. If you inspect your browser and find something here that we have not listed, tell us and we will investigate and correct the page.

05  Third parties involved

Who else sees this data

Provider
What they do for us
Their policy
Google
Google Analytics 4 ... aggregated statistics on pages, sources and behaviour. IP addresses truncated before storage.
Microsoft
Clarity ... anonymised session replays and heatmaps. Form inputs are masked before they leave your browser.

Both act as our processors, meaning they handle the data on our instructions for the purposes described here. Neither is permitted to use it to build an advertising profile of you on our behalf, because we run no advertising.

Google Search Console also reports on our search performance, but it sets no cookies and receives no data from your browser. It reports aggregated query data from Google's own systems and never identifies individual visitors.

06  What we do not use

The absences worth stating

Most cookie policies describe only what is present. Here is what is deliberately not:

  • No advertising or retargeting pixels. No Meta Pixel, no Google Ads remarketing tag, no LinkedIn Insight Tag, no TikTok pixel.
  • No cross-site tracking. Nothing here follows you to another website.
  • No data brokers or audience platforms. We do not sell, rent or share visitor data with anyone who would buy it.
  • No social media embed cookies. Where we link to LinkedIn or YouTube, those are plain links, not embedded players that load tracking before you click.
  • No session recording of form contents. Clarity masks what you type in a field before it is transmitted.
  • No cookie walls. Declining does not block content or limit what you can read.

If this changes, we will say so first

If we ever add an advertising pixel, this list changes and the effective date at the top changes with it. We will not add a tracker and leave a policy up that says we have none.

07  Managing your choice

Changing your mind at any time

01

The banner on your first visit

Accept all, reject all, or choose categories. Rejecting is one click, the same as accepting ... we do not bury it behind a settings menu.

02

Reopening your preferences

Use the cookie settings link in the footer of any page to change what you allowed. Your new choice takes effect immediately.

03

Clearing what is already stored

Changing your choice stops new data being collected. To remove cookies already on your device, clear them for evariko.com in your browser settings.

Consent expires. We ask again after 12 months rather than treating a single click as permanent permission. Under EU guidance, consent given indefinitely stops being meaningful.

08  Browser-level controls

Blocking cookies everywhere, not just here

Your browser can block cookies across every site you visit. This overrides anything we do and works even if a site ignores its own policy.

  • Chrome. Settings → Privacy and security → Third-party cookies
  • Safari. Settings → Privacy → Prevent cross-site tracking (on by default)
  • Firefox. Settings → Privacy & Security → Enhanced Tracking Protection → Strict
  • Edge. Settings → Cookies and site permissions

Blocking all cookies globally will break sign-in on many sites, since login sessions depend on them. Blocking third-party cookies only is the setting most people want, and it stops analytics without affecting anything you need.

Google Analytics specifically can be blocked everywhere with the Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on. Clarity respects your browser's Global Privacy Control signal where your browser sends one.

09  Consent and the law

The rules we apply

We apply the UK Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations and the EU ePrivacy Directive, read alongside UK and EU GDPR. In practice that means:

  • Prior consent. Analytics cookies are not set before you accept. Not on page load, not while the banner is open.
  • Granular choice. You can accept necessary cookies and decline analytics. It is not all or nothing.
  • Equally easy refusal. Reject is one click and sits at the same level as Accept, in the same visual weight.
  • Withdrawable. You can change your mind through the footer link at any time.
  • No detriment. Declining does not reduce access to any content.

We apply this standard to every visitor, not only those in the UK and EU. Running one behaviour for Europeans and another for everyone else would mean we think the protection is a compliance cost rather than the right way to treat people.

How the resulting data is then used, stored and transferred is covered in our Privacy Policy.

10  Changes to this policy

How updates work

We review this page quarterly and whenever we add or remove a tool that sets cookies. The effective date at the top always reflects the current version.

If we add a new cookie category ... advertising being the obvious example ... we will re-request consent rather than relying on your earlier choice. A consent given for analytics is not consent for advertising, and treating it as such is the most common failure in this area.

11  Frequently asked questions

Common questions about cookies here

Will declining cookies limit what I can read?

No. Every guide, template and page works identically whether you accept or decline. There is no cookie wall and no content gated behind consent.

Do you use cookies to show me adverts?

No. There are no advertising or retargeting pixels on this site at all. If that ever changes, this policy changes first and we ask for consent again.

What is Microsoft Clarity actually recording?

Where you scroll, what you click, and where the cursor moves ... reconstructed as an anonymous replay of the page, not video of your screen. Text you type into any field is masked before transmission. Section 04 of our Privacy Policy explains it in full.

Why does Microsoft set a cookie on its own domain?

Because Clarity runs on Microsoft's infrastructure. The MUID cookie is a Microsoft-wide identifier. We do not control it and cannot read it ourselves. Blocking third-party cookies in your browser prevents it.

How do I see what is stored on my device right now?

In Chrome or Edge, press F12, open the Application tab, and look under Cookies. Safari and Firefox have equivalents under their developer tools. Everything set by this site should match Section 04 ... if it does not, tell us.

Does the site respect Do Not Track or Global Privacy Control?

Our consent banner is the primary mechanism and it defaults to off, so analytics does not load unless you opt in regardless of any browser signal. Where your browser sends a Global Privacy Control signal, our processors honour it as well.

How long does my choice last?

Twelve months, then we ask again. You can change it sooner through the footer link at any point.

Questions about cookies?

If something here does not match what you find in your browser, or you want a cookie removed, tell us and we will sort it.
